“What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear;
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear;
All because we don’t carry everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful, Who with all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness, Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior still our refuge, Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do thy friends despise forsake thee, Take it to the Lord in prayer
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.”
Hymn by John M Scriven 1855
What a great hymn this is! A hymn loaded with probably the solution for our lives – take it to the Lord in prayer. The hymn asks on many aspects of life – social, personal, Christian walk, whatever it is – our solution is taking it to God in prayer.
God works in marvelous ways for us. To one He may remove the obstacle, challenge, or the burden you present to Him. To another He may give you the strength to go through the storm. Whatever may be the solution – with God you are rest assured that it is the best solution.
After praying you will get peace of mind knowing that someone bigger, wiser and more capable than you is taking care of things. He says, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. The burden may not go away but you will have new strength or strategies to face it. Sometimes the burden is totally removed. Whatever the case, God is faithful. He will not let us suffer needlessly but will be with us all the way. When faced with a temptation, He will surely show us the way out (1Cointhians 10:13).
I was once burdened with the issues of life. I surely did not have a solution, my mind was just blank. I turned to God in prayer. The next morning I woke up with a song ringing in my mind saying,
“I’ve been through the waters, and I’ve been through the flood;
I’ve been broken into pieces, seen lightning flash from above.
But through all, I remembered that He loves me and He cares;
And He’ll never put more on me than I can bear.”
Instantly I was encouraged. I believed this to be the voice of God telling me to hold on and that all is happening in His plain sight. Surely He is there and I trusted His wisdom to pilot me through it all.
Our exhortation today is never underestimate the value of prayer. Just tell it to Jesus and trust in His knowledge, wisdom, expertise, judgment, love, mercy, kindness to carry you through.
God bless you.
